Electric Space Propulsion Test Facility Göttingen (STG-ET)

The STG-ET facility was designed for electric space propulsion investigations, especially long term testing. The main component of the facility is a large vacuum chamber of 12 meters length and 5 meters diameter. Besides performing measurements of thrust or beam profiles on the thrusters the facility is meant to investigate the interaction of thruster plume with spacecraft components.

High performance LED Illuminator IL104

The LED illuminator IL104 is designed to provide continuous (CW) and pulsed light for high-speed videography and image based measurement techniques such as PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry), BOS (Background Oriented Schlieren), PROPAC (Projected Pattern Correlation), IPCT (Image Pattern Correlation Technique), shadowgraphy and schlieren. The device generates extremely bright, non-coherent light. Available colors are red (623 nm), green (528 nm), blue (462 nm) or UV (390 nm).

Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP)

The PSP technique is an optical measurement method, which provides a pressure measurement on surfaces without introducing flow-disturbing probes and without affecting the surface of the model. To obtain the surface pressure by this method, the model is coated with a special paint, which is illuminated for example by UV light. The intensity of the resulting fluorescence light depends on the local oxygen concentration and allows for the determination of the two-dimensional pressure distribution.

Water Towing Tank Facility

The water towing tank is a steel tank equipped with glass windows on both walls and on the bottom of the tank. The windows are installed for optical measurement techniques and flow visualizations. On the two upper edges of the tank rails are installed for the moving model rig which hauls the model through the tank.
