Description of facility

The high-pressure drying units HPE-LAB-150 (extraction tank with an internal diameter of 185 mm and a capacity of 12 L) and the HPTE-150p (extraction tank with an internal diameter of 475 mm and a capacity of 60 L) are designed for the supercritical drying of lyogels to aerogels and for the optimization of the supercritical extraction process. For this extraction method, supercritical CO2 is used as the extracting agent to remove polar liquids such as isopropanol, acetone and ethanol from the cavities of the nanoporous lyogels. At the end of this batch process, aerogels are obtained. Samples of different geometries can be dried. The drying time depends on the sample geometry and is between 8-72 h. The systems can be operated at a maximum working pressure of 150 bar and a maximum working temperature of 80 ° C. The liquefied CO2 is passed into the extractor by a diaphragm pump. The extracting agent is conducted with the extract into the downstream area, which is automatically controlled. In the separator, a phase separation takes place between the extract and the extracting agent. The purified CO2 is recycled to the feed in a process loop, which reduces CO2 consumption.
